Sipping coffee in the common room of my hostel, and seeing quite a distinguished silhouette of Jamia Millia Islamia, I am left wondering how the time since July has paced up and yet this short span has been capable of giving me thousands of moments to cherish forever.
No sooner did our session begin than the fest was announced. How desperately I was waiting to experience a “college fest” (my last college celebrating none) but quite amazed to know this one was the first of its kind in Department too. This literary extravaganza is dedicated to the two legends of their respective ages, and all ages, Charles Dickens and Sadat Hasan Manto.
Post announcement, the fest waves, enriched with enthusiasm, vigorously prevailed throughout our department, fueling our spirits with profound vitality with each passing day. I still remember when Saumya mentioned about the fest to our class, how wonderful was the response. Everyone wanted everything, the responsibilities, the participation, the volunteering. In a nutshell “ALL”. Despite Chaucer, Gray, Pope, Shakespeare hovering on our heads we wanted to contribute our active participation and make the event a splendid success. Anticipating the following days to be days of profound ecstasy, great enthusiasm and of course unaccountable duties, our responsibilities increased many folds. Assigning duties, convincing the sponsors, arranging funds, bringing about co-ordination among the teams , taking everyone’s ideas and most importantly keeping the controversies and conflicts at an arm’s length, these tasks were not less than “ROADIES” tasks, but most importantly an aspect that we could not afford to miss was our own journal. We sincerely want to register every bit of our toil and labour, to let the next batches joining our Department, know how sincere their seniors were. No bragging intended.
Thats Sudipta, the bubbly first year CR, with the 16 letters which have left our department crazy, but excited |
Finally to blog about the whole scenario was decided and for that which we required an intellectually charmed team with electrifying, super contagious spirits. Hoping it does not sound too conceit, our dexterous fest blogging team is undoubtedly worth all the appreciation. From Reporting to interviewing, from photography to taking the faculty members messages, and not to forget the meetings, our bloggers had no chance of showing a tinge of lackadaisical attitude. We had to be on our toes throughout the event as well as before the event and training had begun now. Having whirlpool of ideas and making them materialize, our bunch of journalists, editors and photographers, all amateurs, worked truly with great professionalism. Project room being our office all the three days, transcribers incessantly present there, and editors required now and then, our agenda of duties was made clear beforehand. Trust me, penning down and reading all of this seems pretty easy, but ask us! Skipping classes, fighting for our attendances, post work-hours work for hours, for the preparations. These indeed are “Hard Times” but undoubtedly with “Great Expectations.”
Less than 24 hours to kick start the fest, and butterflies in my stomach, i am looking forward to an extremely hip and happening day tomorrow. Fingers crossed, wishing with eyes tight closed and praying that all our efforts are duly acknowledged and our fest becomes a mega event. As T.S. Eliot says, “Sometimes things become possible if we want them bad enough.” And Yes, WE want it desperately.
