Three Days To Go!

By now, all of you must know what a gala event TPF is going to be. Let us tell you a little more about the festival

If Day 1 will kick-start with a lot of “drama” and fun filled activities like graffiti making competition and creative writing, then how can Day 2 be left behind. Watching the eager students in the department, all willing to play their “part” in the festival, I am pretty sure that the entire three day festival is going to be a huge success.

Anyway, back to the Day 2 festivities. While the previous day will host a lot of group competitions, this day is mostly based on individual efforts. Except for the quiz competition, which will have teams of two, the elocution competition and the group discussion after a film screening are going to be based on each participant's personal passion and creativity. So here is a chance for all those people who want to outshine everyone, wear your thinking caps and let us see your own version of a “Stephen Blackpool” or a “Bhishen Singh”. Perhaps you can also show us what you think really went into the making of these characters. But guys and girls, we need to find humour in it, because that’s where your genius lies. After all one must have heard “it is easier to make someone cry then to make someone laugh”! Of course it’s just an idea, I am sure if done with sincerity, even rocks can be moved to tears.

Moving on to the other events I would like to add that the facebook pages are actively helping out in preparing everyone for the quiz. Some very interesting trivia is posted about Dickens and Manto almost every day. To be honest it is really helping me in my own understanding of these writers. It seems like each day I get to learn something new about them. For those of you who have yet to check out these pages I suggest you do so as soon as you can, because you are really missing on something. And of course a special mention and heartfelt gratitude to those who took time out of their busy schedules and kept these pages alive, which must have been hard with the harrowing demands of the semester system. Kudos guys!

The other main event for the day is going to be a film screening. In “Dickensian Cinetime” a film adapted from one of Dickens' works will be screened, which will be followed by a group discussion on the same. So here is a chance for all the budding critics out there to put their view point across the table. You really need to be able to express yourself lucidly and convincingly in order to emerge a winner from a sea of arguments.

At the end, with a great hope that this festival will remain a memorable event for years to come, I would like to add that it has been a pleasure to be a part of this electric buzz in the department. Charles Dickens and Saadat Hasan Manto – literary giants of their centuries could not have come together in a better manner.
